That will not serve the purpose...
u have to select the first among the sorted..
so the following code would help...
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="/Root/element">
<xsl:sort order="descending" select="@length" data-type="number"/>
<xsl:if test="position()=1">
<xsl:value-of select="@length"/>
</xsl:if>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
