lots of ways, it depends what you want to do (and where the current node
is)
but if you just want to identify a document for which a contined
subject is interupted then
something like
<xsl:if test="/root/document/*[@complete='no' and name()
! = name(../following-sibling::document[1]/*[1])]">
....
</xsl:if>
