but the most basic way is to first select the first node in each group
<xsl:for-each
select="NODE[@ARCHIVENAME!=preceding-sibling::NODE/@ARCHIVENAME]">
now start a row and do anything else you want to do
<tr>
now select the nodes for this row
<xsl:for-each
select=following-sibling::NODE[@ARCHIVENAME=current()/@ARCHIVENAME]">
