The source of my problem was that my style sheet is dependant on the depth
of a node for display information.
I'd missed the fact that the index.xhtml file prepends two ancestors (page,
and pagemain).

In case you have installed the right msxml add-ins
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/000/543/
msdncompositedoc.xml&frame=true),
just right-click on the IE display and select "View XSL output" from the
pop-up
menu.
