I would be perfectly happy with such a solution, since latex is an
intermediate format. Moreover, even when it's produced by lyx, it's
still possible to edit it by hand.

I haven't used it for a while. I don't even know if the project is still
alive ... (quick check) it still is, and quite active it seems.
