Would it be possible to first factor out the timing objects into their own
classes and put the into testsuite_hooks.h (the answer is yes, the real
question is whether the original authors would consent or do we need to write
our own test with similar functionality and our own copyright)?
Some basic timing infrastructure would be the first step to a fuller
performance testing suite.
