There are two obvious solutions to your problem (re-version your
symbols, or use a newer glibc), it's not as if keeping the version
upstream unchanged makes either of those impossible, it just avoids
shafting others for you not having been involved in the public
discussion on this matter months ago.
Carlos and his team have a set of constraints they have to work within. Re-versioning the symbols or using a newer glibc do not fit those constraints.


Ultimately, this isn't about accessiblity, it's about who wants to
do work, and who should be penalised for having done work earlier
on the promise of a stable ABI.
I'm sorry you see it that way.

Carlos, myself & others have looked at this from every angle we can think of and we don't have a better solution. Carlos is now looking at what can be done to mitigate the pain this change would have for Canonical and others who effectively need to rebuild their worlds if this change goes in. Obviously if we come up with something we'll definitely pass it along.
