Alot of MIPS ports of software have been done for IRIX and in the
progress of porting Linux distributions I encountered a sufficient
number of dependencies on the _MIPS_* symbols to consider keeping
them 1:1 a good thing.  Despite their uglyness and a headerfile
name containing a company that isn't trying to get away from MIPS.
