_tolower() not documented?  It's a Unix function.  Look in the unix
standard.  And just for fun I started 'man _tolower' on Solaris, with
success.

Simple #ifdef???  This horrible unmaintainable crap to figure out file
names and handle deliberately broken systems like the Be stuff.  No,
there is no simple #ifdef.
