I get a similar error, but only on ia32.  Alpha is O.K.  This is from
a CVS update taken about six hours ago and with a patch to fix the
_DL_PLATFORMS_COUNT problem.

Binutils is 2.10.0.33.  Gcc is 2.97 (20001113).
Configure options are:

../configure --prefix=/usr \
        --infodir=/usr/share/info \
        --mandir=/usr/share/man \
        --host=i386-pc-linux --without-cvs \
        --with-headers=`pwd`/../kernel-headers \
        --enable-add-ons

Kernel headers are from 2.4.0-test10.
