your latest patch breaks compilation of a static only glibc:

* Makerules (objects): Add BP thunks.
The message is (this is make 3.79):
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/builds/glibc/20000607-static/signal/BP-sigaltstack.o', needed by `/builds/glibc/20000607-static/signal/stamp.o'. Stop.
I've configured glibc on i686-linux with:
/usr/src/cvs/libc/configure --prefix=/usr/glibc/glibc-2.2 \
--enable-add-ons --disable-profile --without-cvs --disable-shared
Reverting the patch fixes the problem.
