Ah, yes, that looks like the right solution to me.  Unless I'm wrong
ony two files need to be changed.  If you or Werner would provide a
clean patch, I think there is a reasonable chance to get it integrated
in glibc.

   MHO, that'd be a lot more maintainable than the current solution.

On the long term, yes.  But for now, klogd must compile with older
glibc versions, and perhaps even libc5.
