 I discovered today that what was actually wrong is that the current
 Debian `gcc' isn't using `-dynamic' by default when it compiles a
 shared object.  `libtool' is fine after all.

 After thinking a second, I believe that this doesn't really belong on 
 this list...  I apologize for the transgressions, and will restrict
 future postings to more relevant topics.
