CVS is bad news from behind firewall

The loss of ftp access will be a problem for me personally. My access is
through a firewall; only those services that have proxies work. CVS
is not supported and is not likely to be. The only things that work
are http, ftp and telnet. 

If the main site is not going to have tar-balls, could somebody volunteer
to wrap them up from time to time. Even once a month would be better than 
waiting for the next release.

Shame. :-(
