Hmm, any output involved? Are you using a mingw vs cygwin compiled
library? Or both mingw? both cygwin?
But anyway, that is a huge speed-up (~ factor 3). Can anybody confirm
that M$ VC / Win98 are really that bad?

Ah, so it's mostly a VC issue in your case..

Well, I coud have told you that before:)These ratios are incredible,
though! I don't do any development with M$ tools, but I would still
be interested whether these numbers are "typical".
