[Bug libc/2487] New: Configure fails always related to binutils .machine altivec test

Trying to build up to date powerpc cross compiler, always fails:
checking for .machine support... no
configure: error:
*** A binutils version which can handle
***    .machine "altivec"
*** is needed.

I've tried the absolute latest cutting edge binutils and that doesn't
help. glibc 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 have this problem also. 2.3.3 didn't
have it as I recall.
