[Bug gdb/23949] New: regression: gdb doesn't work at all on recent versions of OSX

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23949

            Bug ID: 23949
Summary: regression: gdb doesn't work at all on recent versions
                    of OSX
           Product: gdb
           Version: HEAD
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P2
         Component: gdb
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: thelastmammoth at gmail dot com
  Target Milestone: ---

There are 2 issues:

* gdb doesn't work on recent versions of OSX since 8.1 and there are plenty of
posts suggestign to downgrade to 8.0.1 to make it usable, eg see
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/49001329/gdb-doesnt-work-on-macos-high-sierra-10-13-3

* on mojave, the above workaround doesn't work anymore because of `unknown load
command 0x32` error, see
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52529838/gdb-8-2-cant-recognized-executable-file-on-macos-mojave-10-14

As a result, there's a discussion to pull out gdb from homebrew (OSX package
manager) since gdb has been broken for a while, see
https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/issues/34750#issuecomment-444015529

> If upstream refuses to fix macOS versions and nobody submits fixes to it, it might be better to pull gdb from homebrew completely

Is there any plan to fix gdb on OSX?
