This incompatibility cannot go without some change to documentation, both in the user manual and in NEWS.

The documentation doesn't mention linespecs very much, so I will look into writing an appropriate expansion of that section of the manual in the morning [and a NEWS entry].


Windows drive letters are okay, too.

Not sure what this means. Do they require quoting or not?

Oh, sorry. No, linespecs with drive letters do not require quoting (no change from current behavior).
