It's part of libtool (from memory). The home page is somewhere on
   www.gnu.org.

Note that this morning I upgraded the binutils to libtool 1.3.4, which
included replacing the top level ltconfig file.

What-if there are delays in getting the change into the official
   libtool? I don't know. Ian?

I personally would prefer to only use local patches for a package
which was no longer being maintained. libtool is still being
maintained.

The binutils use a particular libtool snapshot, available from
ftp://sourceware.cygnus.com:/pub/binutils. I would sometimes be
willing to patch that snapshot in unusual circumstances.

It should only be a significant issue just before a release, and who
knows when we will have a release.

Ian
