Nice but nonsense ;) The browser has to do this on its own. lynx has
an option to number links one by one:
ke@tux:~/Projects> lynx -dump -number_links http://www.nwalsh.com | head -15
nwalsh.com
[1]DocBook
[2]XML
[3]Documents
[4]Perl
[5]Palm Pilot
[6]Emacs
[7]Fonts
[8]TeX
[9]Travel Journal

No it not a thingie the authoer should care about; the problem is
already solve by good tools since years :)
