fwiw, I tried with Xalan-J 2.1.0, and it seems to work with chunk.xsl
stylesheets in versions up through docbook-xsl-1.47-experimental. But
with docbook-xsl-1.48 and above, Xalan-J 2.1.0 fails with a not-very-
helpful error message:

  XSLT Error (javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException): null

It maybe no Xalan2 version supports the chunk.xsl in the current
stylesheets, only the pre-1.48 chunk.xsl?
