Please test it and report any problems to the Cygwin mailing list. It

after installing it, and make sure there are no errors involving updmap.

I've only now been able to check the test package. I still get these messeges with my setup (as before), but I believe they are harmless.

Yes, but still I'd like to get rid of them.

updmap is using the following updmap.cfg files (in precedence order):
   /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg
   /usr/share/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg
updmap: generated map otf-noEmbed.map (from otf-@kanjiEmbed@.map) does not
exists, not activating it!
updmap: generated map otf-up-noEmbed.map (from otf-up-@kanjiEmbed@.map) does not
exists, not activating it!
updmap: generated map ptex-noEmbed.map (from
ptex-@kanjiEmbed@@kanjiVariant@.map) does not exists, not activating it!

I would have expected

updmap-sys --syncwithtrees

(which is in the texlive-collection-basic postinstall script) to get rid of those messages. Maybe those messages were produced earlier in the postinstall process. Please try running `updmap-sys' and see if you still get the error messages. If so, maybe try running `updmap-sys --syncwithtrees' and then try updmap-sys again.

I have an (empty) /usr/share/texmf-site directory, I could try again without it
if you think that would be helpful.

No, I think you need that directory in order to prevent updmap from just quitting without doing anything.
