skipping file `...', as it was replaced while being copied

Using Cygwin 1.7.7, the following behavior started recently,
but I can't think of any change that may be the culprit:
===========BEGIN=SNIPPET============
knellis@COBQDPPJ1 ~
$ cp /cygdrive/q/knellis/xyz ~
cp: skipping file `/cygdrive/q/knellis/xyz', as it was replaced while being copied

knellis@COBQDPPJ1 ~
============END=SNIPPET=============
This used to work just fine.
My Q: device maps to a Samba share on QNX through Virtual PC.
This configuration has not changed since before it stopped
working. Copying the same file using Windows drag-and-drop
works just fine.

Hoping the wisdom of this list can help.
