It doesn't ignore it: it works just fine, if you get the option right, and gives you a syntax error if not. Observe:
~ $ d AutoBld/
/home/dk/AutoBld/:
rwxr-xr-x dk:Domain Users 0 Aug 10 14:56 .a/
rwxr-xr-x dk:Domain Users 0 Aug 10 14:56 .b/
rwxr-xr-x dk:Domain Users 0 Sep 12 2006 BLDHIST/

This could well be a case of YMMV.
