I've changed this because it did not work for first time installations.
Since xorg 6.8.0 the font-update script is run in the postinstall scripts
to generate fonts.dir, fonts.scale and fonts.encoding and it used to work
with textmounts too (at least i thought). The new -bin package includes 
a mkfontscale which will always create binary fonts.scale and fonts.dir
files which should work properly regardless of textmode or binmode mounts.
