setenv DISPLAY local_win_ip
xterm&amp;

The problem is with the value you set DISPLAY to. You want to use the IP address associated with the far end of the VPN. Figuring out that value isn't always easy. Sometimes you can run "who" at the far end and it will tell you the hostname or IP address it thinks you're connecting from. Also, sometimes the VPN software itself will tell you the far-end IP address if you look at the detailed log as it's bringing up the VPN.
