Using 6.7.0.0-8 Failure to connect to Linux

Hello!
I was successfully using Cygwin to connect my Windows machine to my SuSE 9 until my Windows machine crashed about three weeks ago. Since then, I have not been able to reconnect the two computers. In the meantime, we have new Ethernet switches which I suspect may have triggered the problem? (a colleague who is using the SAME set-up she had previously used successfully can no longer connect either) It only seems broke for SuSE 9. The HP-UX and SuSE 8 machines are all ok. The SuSE 9 machine is using KDM and it is set-up to accept external connections.
