I'm using the latest fonts. I've erased everything and installed
xfree86-{bin,fonts,devel}.tar.bz2 and X-server-20000506.tar.bz2
cygwin-xfree-x11r6.4-cygwin-B20.1.tar.bz2 is not installed. Hope it's Ok.
It unpacks to a different directory /usr/X11R6.4, so it shouldn't be
needed, right?

No effect. However this
XNtUX :0 -screen 1024x768x8 -whitepixel 255 -blackpixel 0
looks "better" than just "XNtUX :0 -screen 1024x768x8". Now I see two gray
"mini-screens" occupying the upper half of the physical screen.

Aha! Those files are in xfree86-devel.tar.bz2. I thought I don't need it
because I'm not going to develop anything.
But I see no effect even after unpacking xfree86-devel.tar.bz2
By the way, I'm affraid that xfmap.sys is not installed properly on my
system. I put it to c:\winnt\system32 and c:\winnt\system32\drivers
without playing any games with regedit.
Thank you for your time,
