one detail about the build matrix i thought i'd mention -- just to push the envelope, i'm doing my SH3 builds with the gcc-4.0.0 preview host compiler on my FC4t2 system, while i'm assuming most folks are using the more common gcc-3.4.3 or something like that.
the build matrix doesn't take this into account. does this matter?
Not usually. There is one combination that doesn't build on Red Hat 7.1; see http://gcc.gnu.org/PR9552 and the mention of PR9552 in crosstool-howto.html. Other than that I haven't seen any strange problems based on what Linux distro you build crosstool with. (Well, OK, there was a problem on bash-3.0 systems like SuSE 9.2, but that was a bug in gcc's configure script, and I now have patches to fix it.)
p.s. and is there some info i should submit so that the matrix can be updated to show that SH3 can be built for the combination i used?
Nah, I'll have an expanded build matrix soon. - Dan
