You can compile c++ programs with gcc.

Thanks for suggestion, though... I've tried using g++ but it had made no difference.

That was new to me... but I now see that the linker errors can be resolved by adding -lstdc++ to the command line.
Thanks, I learnt something new today!

Thanks!

I've tried linking with libstdc++, but it did not help.

Does any of you know the format for the global constructor tables? This way I can write a routine myself to go through the array and call constructors...

You shouldn't need to do that.

How about this: find someone who has written a small C++ program
for your target (sh4-elf), see how they built gcc-3.3.2, and
see how they built the program. This has *got* to be a common
situation. You might try asking also on other mailing lists
like gcc-help, linux-sh ( http://www.m17n.org/linux-sh/ml/linux-sh/ ),
or etux@embeddedtux.org.
