Yes, I used to do that because several people here do it. The idea is simply to create a project, and in the settings of the project set a command line with a call to make. That way, you get compilation with F7, you get the file browser/editor just like usual.. The only function I can think of that you lose (over using the built-in compiler) is that you don't get a direct link between compiler output and editor: ie when there is a compilation error, you can't just double click on the error to get the editor at the error place.
