Compiling EGCS 1.1b as a cross compiler on Linux

Hello. I'm trying to build EGCS 1.1b as a cross compiler for AIX 4.3
(PowerPC-based RS/6000) on Linux (2.0.34 kernel on x86).  I've been
following the instructions in the "crossgcc" FAQ, and I have binutils 2.9
compiled for the AIX 4.3 target. When I try to run the configure script
for EGCS, I get the following errors:

Configuration powerpc-ibm-aix43 not supported
Configure in /home/tomw/build-gcc/gcc failed, exiting.

The command I type is this:

 ../egcs-1.1b/configure --host=$host --target=$target --prefix=$prefix -v

where,

host=powerpc-aix43
target=powerpc-eabi
prefix=/home/tom/aix43

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Peace.....
