It's a good idea, but for practical reasons I'd much prefer it
to be a different name. When you combine a gcc-tree and a
src-tree it'd help to *not* have the "same" contrib directory
(gcc has one, but you knew that) with different contents - I bet
there'd eventually be a file you want to use that would have the
same name but different contents.
Maybe even just going down a subdirectory level would help, say
/contrib/binutils/ and banning files other than (other)
unambiguous project-named directories in /contrib/.
