   The problem is that other folks need to synchronise their source trees
   with my source trees.  When I generate diffs between my source tree
   and the cvs sources, it's good to have a well defined reference.

Make sense.  I just put a cvs tag command in the snapshot script.  See
if the tag is there tomorrow, after tonight's snapshot is made.
