Precisely. We didn't support msdos/djgpp then.

Those can install the patch you had installed in their own trees, but
we shouldn't help people make such unportable uses, unless we're sure
we're doing the right thing. And doing the right thing will require a
lot of work.

I believe none of us knows for sure, so we'd better not touch what's
working, in such a maintenance release.
