Thank you for the detailed report.
I've removed `-o /dev/null' from dashmstdout, this was
bogus even for gcc (the compiler that prompted this addition).
The test for this (using gcc) is depcomp3.test.
I've also stripped the libtool call in the makedepend
case as you suggested. The test case is depcomp4.test.
This will be in Automake 1.7.3.
