nscd crashes while processing a netgroup entry where one or more values from the (host,user,domain) triple are absent.  Reproducable by adding this line to /etc/netgroup:

powerusers (,miquels,) (,torvalds,) (,fubar,)

and running getent netgroup powerusers.
